Neighborhood Highlights Tour

General itinerary

A private tour with New Orleans Urban Adventures is always a completely custom itinerary, created just for you and your group! A private tour of New Orleans can be from 2 hours – 10 hours, depending on the destination. The meet-up location will depend on what neighborhoods you’re visiting on your tour – they’re all easily accessible via street car. While many visitors to New Orleans have specific sites they would like to see, many are happy to let our team create a custom itinerary that fits their interests, budget, mobility, and timeline. Typically, tours spend most of their time in and around New Orleans, but we welcome any ideas for your dream tour. No two groups are alike and we will plan a trip tailored to your group’s interests, budget, and needs.

New Orleans is a city known for its diversity, culture, character, and food. However, many people never venture outside of the famed French Quarter. On this Neighborhoods Tour, we’ll take you to the other colorful, historic, and delicious neighborhoods throughout the city and show you the local side of New Orleans! If you’re on a Highlights Tour (2-3 hours, you’ll be visiting one neighborhood), a Half-Day Tour will take you to 2 neighborhoods, and a Full-Day Tour will have you visiting 3 or 4 neighborhoods of your choice. Here’s a sample of what you can expect in the neighborhoods you can choose from for your tour:

Tremé:
Well-known from the HBO show of the same name, this neighborhood is the oldest African-American neighborhood in the United States. Here you can visit Storyville (responsible for the birth of jazz), and perhaps grab a bite of some delicious Creole soul food at one of Treme’s distinctive local eateries. For the history buffs, check out the St. Louis Cemetery with your local licenced guide.

The Marigny:
Known for Frenchman Street and its exciting jazz clubs, this neighborhood also shows off its strong Caribbean influence with brightly colored shotgun houses and storefronts. Here, we recommend getting a po-boy at one of our favorite local hangouts (home of the world-famous hot sausage po-boy!), or a stuffed beignet at one of the city’s best hidden gems.

The Bywater:
This is the neighborhood for the newest and coolest places in town. Visit Crescent Park along the mighty Mississippi, try the praline bacon (recommended by the New York Times!) at a neighborhood landmark, and follow your guide to “Nola’s Backyard Party.” Here, you’ll be able to select your own wine and cheese and listen to live, local music. Throughout The Bywater, you’ll have the chance to marvel at the beautiful and eclectic murals and street art throughout the neighborhood.

Carrollton (aka Riverbend):
This neighborhood marks the end of the streetcar line and is known very well for its distinctive traditions and locales, such as the Maple Leaf (that’s right… the best live local music every night!), a Creole soul food hot spot with a twist (think crawfish cheesecake), or the best version of a New Orleans snowball in the city.

Mid-City:
Here, you can check out Canal Street and City Park – offering a look at the city’s most iconic urban greenspace. Follow your guide towards some delicious beignets and coffee, enjoy a stroll through the Botanical Gardens or visit the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park. We can’t allow you to leave Mid-City without sampling a delicious pastry at one of the city’s best Italian bakeries, or a crawfish and shrimp boil at a traditional neighborhood seafood market.
